A woman was charged after she crashed into a guardrail and rolled her car over in Highwood, requiring firefighters to extricate her and transport her to the hospital.
The Highwood Police Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded around 12:58 a.m. Thursday to the area of Sheridan Road and First Street in Highwood for a report of a vehicle crash.
Highland Park Deputy Fire Chief Frank Nardomarino said crews arrived to find a single-vehicle crash.
A car had struck the guardrail and rolled over, resulting in heavy damage, Nardomarino said.
Firefighters worked to remove the adult female driver from the SUV, which came to rest on its driver’s side.
Nardomarino said the woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The crash occurred on a curve along Sheridan Road just north of First Street where vehicles routinely crash into the guardrail.
Highwood Police Chief Dave Wentz said an officer was traveling northbound on Sheridan Road behind the Land Rover Range Rover prior to the crash.
The officer witnessed the Range Rover crash into the guardrail, which resulted in a large amount of the guardrail being damaged, Wentz said.
The 38-year-old Lake Forest woman was allegedly driving under the influence and was cited for the offense.
Wentz said the fire department had to extricate her from the car due to the way the vehicle came to rest.
No other vehicles were involved the road was not closed for an extended period.
