Sheriff’s deputies arrested two teenagers after they found drugs, a “ghost gun” and a second gun equipped with an illegal drum magazine during a traffic stop in Beach Park Sunday evening.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Green Bay Road and Wall Avenue in Beach Park.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the stop was conducted due to the vehicle’s registration being suspended.
The driver was identified as Dewan Frazier, 19, of Park Forest, and the deputy noticed the smell of fresh cannabis coming from inside the vehicle while talking to Frazier.
The conversation with Frazier revealed that there was unsealed cannabis inside the vehicle, Covelli said.
The deputy continued the investigation and found that a juvenile passenger was in possession of a loaded and unserialized pistol.
Covelli said another pistol with a drum-style magazine was located inside the trunk of the car.
Frazier and the 17-year-old boy, who is from Park City, were both arrested and transported to the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Sheriff’s detectives petitioned the juvenile to juvenile court on the charges of aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of cannabis.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against Frazier of unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis.
Frazier was processed in the jail and released with a future court date.
The juvenile was transported to the Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility near Vernon Hills for an initial court hearing.
