A fire department response was sent after a vehicle, believed to be over 50 years old, was discovered submerged in a pond in Deer Park, officials said.
The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:45 p.m. Friday to the area of Deerpath Road and Corners Drive in Deer Park.
A company was dredging a pond when they discovered a vehicle in the water, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
Covelli said it appears the vehicle had been there for a significant amount of time.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and divers were deployed in the water to check the vehicle.
The car was completely filled with mud and debris, which did not allow it to be removed from the pond, Covelli said.
Another attempt will be made to remove the car and determine its contents as crews continue dredging the pond.
Covelli said the car is possibly over 55 years old, from the 1950s or 1960s.
First responders remained at the scene for several hours into Friday evening during the incident.
Crews were unable to fully search the vehicle. It is unknown yet when crews will attempt to remove the car.
