Deputies surrounded a home near Antioch and a wanted suspect who was inside tried fleeing from the house but instead ran right toward an awaiting sheriff’s canine Sunday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office located a stolen vehicle around 9:15 p.m. Sunday parked outside a home.
The driver of the vehicle fled from sheriff’s deputies on the previous night.
Deputies established a perimeter around the house in the 26200 block of Route 173 in unincorporated Antioch.
The offender, John Neveitt, 36, of Woodstock, was reported to be inside the home, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.
Deputies knocked on the door and a short time later, Neveitt ran out a back door.
Sheriff’s officials said Neveitt did not get far as he was met by Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Loki.
The canine was “eagerly waiting” and deputies took Neveitt into custody after he immediately surrendered upon meeting the canine.
Neveitt was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on multiple charges, including aggravated fleeing to elude and driving on a revoked license.
Neveitt is scheduled to appear for a First Appearance Court hearing.
