One person was evaluated by paramedics after a fire, believed to be accidental, that caused damage to a house in Round Lake early Tuesday morning.

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 300 block of Applegate Court in Round Lake for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived in less than five minutes to find a fire on the rear deck of the single-family home, according to Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jay VandeBerg.

VandeBerg said the deck fire began spreading to the siding of the house.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and began checking the house to see if the fire extended further.

Investigators determined that the cause of the fire was accidental in nature, VandeBerg said.

The home sustained approximately $7,500 in damage but remains habitable for the residents.
