Over a hundred protesters turned out at separate protests in McHenry County over the weekend to demonstrate against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
A “Rally For Rights” event was held on the corner of Route 12 and Broadway Road in downtown Richmond from 9-11 a.m. Saturday.
A flyer for the event said attendees were protesting the “depredations of Trump” and that President Trump’s tariffs equal “huge tax hike.”
The protest was organized by the Democratic Party of McHenry County and District 8 Democrats as part of a “National Day of Action” by Project Fifty Fifty One.
Attendees held signs that said “Pro America. Anti Trump,” “Return to Rule of Law & Truth,” and “Stand for Democracy.”
Over 100 people attended the demonstration. Another “Rally For Rights” event was held in Harvard from 11-1 p.m. Saturday.
Over 100 people also attended the Harvard protest, which took place at Diggins Street and Division Street.
Protesters lined the street corners at both protests while holding signs.
“People all around the country are rising up to protest the depredations being wreaked by the Trumpsters,” the Democratic Party of McHenry County said.
The organization said Saturday was symbolic with it being the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington in the U.S. Revolutionary War, in which Paul Revere played a key role.
“It’s an important date in the struggle to achieve rights and freedoms for all people,” the organization said.
Several other anti-Trump and anti-Musk protests were also held in the Chicago area on Saturday.
Organizers say over 2,000 people attended a protest in Highland Park demonstrating against Trump and Musk on Saturday afternoon.
A countywide “day of action” rally was organized by the Lake County Democrats, Moraine Township Democrats and other grassroots groups.
Lake County Democrats said more than 2,000 people peacefully demonstrated in Highland Park.
“People are fed up by what they’ve seen, and alarmed by what extreme, harmful action is coming next from Trump and Musk,” Lake County Democrats Chair Lauren Beth Gash said.
“Today’s demonstration made clear that the people of Lake County are actively resisting the idea of a return to a tyrant and a king to rule us. 250 years after our Revolutionary War began, we’re saying no kings. Trump certainly isn’t all-knowing, otherwise he wouldn’t have failed so miserably to bring down prices on day one like he promised to do,” Beth Gash said.
Other protests were also held in Chicago, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg and other suburbs.
