Officials say a 47-year-old woman was arrested after she hit a sheriff’s deputy in the groin following the sheriff’s office being called to a dispute at a restaurant and bar near Mundelein.

Erica Martinez-Dominguez, 47, of Cicero, was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer, a Class 2 felony.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called on April 7 to Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant, 26228 Route 83 in unincorporated Mundelein, for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Cannon said the dispute was occurring between two intoxicated patrons, including Martinez-Dominguez.

Sheriff’s deputies spoke with the second patron and he said he was with Martinez-Dominguez at the restaurant when they got into a disagreement.

The man did not give further details except for saying the two were in a verbal argument.

Deputies were trying to get Martinez-Dominguez home to Cicero in an Uber, Cannon said.

Cannon said Martinez-Dominguez jumped out of the Uber and went towards the man she had previously been in the dispute with while yelling in Spanish.

Deputies tried to prevent Martinez-Dominguez from getting to the man and the woman hit a deputy in the groin with her hand, Cannon said.

Martinez-Dominguez was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail for a First Appearance Court hearing.

The charges are non-detainable under Illinois’ cashless bail law and Lake County Judge Stephen DeRue released Martinez-Dominguez following the court hearing.

DeRue placed Martinez-Dominguez on Level 3 pre-trial services monitoring and ordered her not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs and be subject to random testing.

Martinez-Dominguez was also ordered not to possess any weapons and not to have any violent or harassing contact with the man she was with at the restaurant.
