Two suspects were arrested after police said they followed a group and one of them pointed a loaded gun at one of the victims on the Woodstock Square.
The Woodstock Police Department responded around 9:30 p.m. on April 16 to the 200 block of Main Street for a report of an altercation.
Woodstock Deputy Police Chief Ray Lanz said officers learned a verbal altercation occurred and a firearm had been displayed.
Officers spoke to the people involved, who reported they were followed to the 200 block of Main Street.
The subjects who followed them were known to them from previous disagreements they had been involved in, Lanz said.
Lanz said a verbal altercation ensued between the four involved subjects and one of them, identified as Salvador Herrera, 19, of Woodstock, displayed a handgun and pointed it at one of the victims.
Herrera and his accomplice, Elias Cervantes, 19, of Woodstock, fled the scene, Lanz said.
The gun was not discharged and was located shortly after the incident occurred and secured by officers.
Herrera was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, obstructing justice, two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm without a FOID and possession of ammunition without a FOID.
Cervantes was charged with obstructing justice and possession of a firearm without a FOID.
Cervantes was arrested after the gun was located and Herrera was taken into custody on Monday after an arrest warrant was issued for him.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said the gun, a Glock 43X, was loaded with a round in the chamber with an inserted loaded 30-round extended magazine.
The complaint said Herrera gave the gun to Cervantes following the aggravated assault while instructing him to hide the gun.
Herrera and Cervantes were not allowed to possess the gun as they do not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card, the complaint said.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed petitions to detain both men pending trial, arguing they pose a real and present danger to the community, and judges granted both petitions.
Herrera is set to appear in court again on April 29 and Cervantes is scheduled to appear in court again on May 13.
