The Major Crime Task Force is investigating after a 31-year-old was shot in North Chicago and died after being rushed to the hospital Wednesday evening.

The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 4:59 p.m. Wednesday to the 1600 block of Victoria Avenue for a report of a person shot.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesperson Christopher Covelli said officers arrived and found a gunshot victim just outside of a home.

Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he died.

An autopsy was expected to be performed Thursday morning by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The identity of the victim, a 31-year-old man, has not been released yet by the coroner’s office.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene to assist the North Chicago Police Department in the investigation.

Covelli said the man was outside the home when the shooting occurred.

The shooter was on foot when he shot the victim, Covelli added.

Investigators have not released the number of shots fired or how many times the victim was hit by gunfire.

Major Crime Task Force investigators and North Chicago police detectives continue to actively investigate the homicide.

The incident marks the fifth homicide in Lake County in 2025 and the first homicide of the year in North Chicago.
