Residents were left displaced and a cat was rescued after a fire that was possibly caused by lightning damaged a house in Lindenhurst, fire officials said.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday to the 50 block of Laurel Drive in Lindenhurst for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the rear of a single-family house.
A Working Still Alarm was called for additional resources from other fire departments to respond.
Lake Villa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jay Vance said the fire appeared to have started on the exterior of the home and spread into the structure.
Fire crews extinguished the fire in approximately 10 minutes.
Vance said no injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters.
Cats were reported to be inside the home and firefighters rescued one of them but the others were not located.
The rescued cat was alive and reunited with the family.
Damage was estimated at $100,000 and the fire was “highly likely” to be weather-related, caused by a lightning strike.
The Round Lake, Antioch and Newport fire departments assisted at the scene. The Gurnee and Libertyville fire departments covered Lake Villa fire stations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lake Villa Fire Protection District.
