A man was seriously injured and had to be flown to the hospital as Huntley firefighters responded to two house fires just minutes apart in Huntley and Algonquin Monday afternoon.
The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 12:08 p.m. Monday to the 10000 block of Ashley Court in Huntley for a report of a structure fire.
Several 911 calls reported flames showing from the rooftop of a home, fire officials said.
Firefighters arrived a short time later and observed light smoke coming from a two-story house.
Fire officials said crews quickly made entry to conduct searches and locate the source of the fire.
Firefighters located a small fire on the exterior rooftop near the home’s solar panels.
Electricity was terminated to the home to prevent further damage.
The fire caused only minor damage to the exterior and the house remains habitable while repairs are made, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.
While firefighters were still at the Ashley Court scene, a second structure fire was reported around 12:23 p.m. in the 0-100 block of Tregonwell Court in Algonquin.
Firefighters, including some released from the first scene, arrived within minutes and located a cooking-related fire in a garage.
Fire officials said an adult male victim was found at the scene with serious burns.
Paramedics quickly began treating the victim while firefighters confirmed the fire had been extinguished and did not extend into the home.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to land at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.
The victim was transported to the landing zone and airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for treatment, fire officials said.
The cause of both fires remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
“The Huntley Fire Protection District would like to thank the neighboring agencies who provided assistance at the scenes and helped ensure uninterrupted emergency coverage throughout our district,” the district said.
