Crews have removed a vehicle, which had a missing engine and is over 65 years old, after it was discovered submerged in a pond in Deer Park earlier this month.

The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:45 p.m. on April 18 to the area of Deerpath Road and Corners Drive in Deer Park.

A company was dredging a pond when they discovered a vehicle in the water, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

Covelli said it appears the vehicle had been there for a significant amount of time.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and divers were deployed in the water to check the vehicle.

The car was completely filled with mud and debris, which did not allow it to be removed from the pond, Covelli said.

Crews spent more than a week dredging the pond. The car was removed on Monday by an excavator, which resulted in the car being destroyed.

Covelli said the car appears to have been dumped in the pond decades ago. The car is suspected to be from the 1950s.

When it was removed from the pond, the vehicle’s engine was missing and not located in the pond.

“Nothing suspicious was noted inside the car,” Covelli said.
