The medical examiner has released the identity of a woman who died after she was found unresponsive while swimming in a pool in Buffalo Grove Tuesday afternoon.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday to Cambridge on the Lake, 125 Lake Boulevard in Buffalo Grove.
Buffalo Grove Police Department Sgt. Meghan Hansen said officers received a call for an unresponsive person who had possibly drowned.
A resident at the property made the discovery and alerted property management, who then called 911.
Officers located a woman who appeared to have experienced a medical event while swimming, Hansen said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Sofia Kazakova, 76, of Wheeling.
Lifesaving measures were attempted but were ultimately unsuccessful.
Paramedics transported Kazakova to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation showed no indication of foul play, Hansen said.
While Kazakova was a resident of Wheeling, her family members lived at the Cambridge on the Lake community where the incident occurred.
Kazakova was later transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The medical examiner’s office said Kazakova’s cause and manner of death have not been determined yet.
