Officials say a reckless driver led police on a vehicle pursuit before colliding with a police squad, causing a rollover crash in Park City.
The Park City Police Department responded around 7:12 p.m. on April 24 to the area of Ruth Wilcox Avenue and Hood Avenue for reports of a vehicle driving recklessly.
Park City Police Chief Kenneth Stoves told Lake and McHenry County Scanner on Friday that a 911 caller reported a gray Jeep had been driving at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was going the wrong way on one-way streets and going through stop signs without stopping.
Stoves said the caller was concerned due to the number of children outside playing in the area.
Officers with the Park City Police Department located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The suspect vehicle did not stop and continued to travel in a reckless manner, committing numerous traffic violations, Stoves said.
Police pursued the vehicle and the suspect traveling southbound on Teske Boulevard approaching the T-intersection at Old Plank Road.
The suspect was traveling in the wrong lane of traffic when the vehicle and a squad car collided.
Stoves said the suspect vehicle was pushed to the edge of Old Plank Road and partially rolled over onto the driver’s side.
The 29-year-old male driver reported that his leg was trapped between the seat and the door.
The Gurnee Fire Department responded and the driver was eventually able to free himself and crawl out the window, Stoves said.
The driver was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he refused treatment.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was requested to conduct an investigation into the incident. No charges have been announced yet.
