A former Lake Villa man has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges that he sexually molested his girlfriend’s daughters between 2020 and 2021, authorities said.
Anthony Figueroa, 41, currently living in Washington, is facing six Class 1 felony counts of Criminal Sexual Assault and six Class 2 felony counts of Aggravated Criminal Abuse on accusations that he either sexually assaulted or sexually abused the daughters on multiple occasions between February 2020 and January 2021, court records show.
Defense attorney James Brzezinski, who appeared in Figueroa’s April 11 detention hearing, denied the claims.
According to records obtained through the Lake County Circuit Clerk’s Office, the middle child first came forward in February 2020 to complain that Figueroa had been inappropriately and sexually touching her. That sister was in middle school at the time of the initial complaint, prosecutors said.
At the time, though, the other two girls in the home did not corroborate the statements made by their sister when they were interviewed by investigators at the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center, court records show.
About 18 months later, the older sister came forward to authorities and claimed Figueroa had become much worse since turning 16 after the first interview.
The older sister, who was born in 2004, said Figueroa had molested her more than 50 times between the ages of 16 and 17 during that period.
In addition, the older sister said Figueroa would give her alcohol and marijuana before sexually assaulting her.
The youngest sister, who was born in 2007, was also interviewed in 2022 and told investigators Figueroa had begun to inappropriately touch her, court records show.
Prosecutors said Figueroa told police investigating the incidents that he left Illinois in 2022 after the oldest daughter threatened to go to police unless he left the state.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against Figueroa in January 2025. He was taken into custody in Washington and transported back to Illinois.
On April 11, prosecutors with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a motion to detain Figueroa until trial during First Appearance court. That motion to detain was granted by Lake County Circuit Court Judge Michael Nerheim later that same day.
Figueroa has also been indicted by a Lake County Grand Jury on March 26. Court records show he pleaded not guilty to the charges in front of Lake County Judge George Strickland on Wednesday.
Figueroa is due back in court on May 15 for a status hearing.
