Police say they are investigating after two separate shootings occurred within a short timeframe in Woodstock early Sunday morning but no injuries were reported.

The Woodstock Police Department responded during the early morning hours on Sunday to a report of shots fired in the southwest sector of Woodstock.

Officers were investigating the incident when more gunshots were reported in the northeast area of Woodstock, south of the McHenry County Courthouse, police officials said.

Both reports were received by citizens who called 911 and officers confirmed shots were fired in both cases.

No gunshot victims were identified and no one has reported any damage to property from the shootings.

“Based on the totality of the circumstances, the Woodstock Police Department does not assess a direct, immediate, or on-going threat to the community,” police officials said.

“However, there is no excuse for irresponsible gun possession/ownership which only endangers the greater Woodstock community,” police officials said.

The department said all responsible parties in the incident will be held accountable “to the fullest extent of the law” if identified.

The Woodstock Police Department said they are asking homeowners to check their home security video systems for any suspicious vehicles or people in the affected areas.

Police officials did not provide specific locations for the shootings or the number of shots fired.

A resident told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the first shooting occurred on South Street near Woodstock High School around 12:20 a.m. and approximately 24 shots were fired.
