A driver was transported to the hospital after a crash that shut down part of a busy stretch of Route 176 in Prairie Grove and caused significant traffic delays Thursday afternoon.
The Nunda Rural Fire Protection District and Prairie Grove Police Department responded around 1:35 p.m. Thursday to the area of Route 176 west of Bayview Beach Road for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Nunda Rural Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said the crash was located at the entrance of Prairie Isle Golf Course, 2216 Route 176.
Firefighters and paramedics found a two-vehicle crash with moderate damage.
A driver, an adult female, was evaluated at the scene and transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with minor injuries, Vucha said.
The driver of the second vehicle refused medical evaluation at the scene.
Both drivers were sole occupants of their vehicles.
Vucha said no significant hazards were identified at the scene but firefighters remained at the crash site for approximately an hour to ensure the area was safe until the vehicles were removed.
Significant traffic backups occurred in both directions of Route 176 during the incident.
The westbound lane of traffic was shut down and traffic in both directions was only able to get by through one lane, Vucha said.
The Prairie Grove Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
