Two families were displaced and one person was injured after a car drove completely through a home, leaving two residences damaged, in Vernon Hills Saturday morning.
The Countryside Fire Protection District and Vernon Hills Police Department responded around 9:30 a.m. Saturday to the area of Indianwood Drive and Michigan Court in Vernon Hills for a report of a vehicle crash.
Countryside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jason Masheris said crews arrived and found a single-vehicle crash into a building.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Firefighters assessed the damage and found two townhomes were damaged in the crash, Masheris said.
Paramedics transported one person to a local hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.
Countryside Fire Chief Chuck Smith said the driver lost control of the Nissan Sentra sedan and drove off the roadway into a townhome.
The Nissan was fully inside the residence when fire crews arrived and the structural integrity was in question.
The Libertyville and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods fire departments were called to the scene and fire personnel stabilized the structure.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service responded to the scene and removed the car from the building before towing it.
The families in both residences were displaced after both units were deemed uninhabitable, Masheris said.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Vernon Hills Police Department.
