Eight people were injured after a two-vehicle crash caused an SUV to roll over and resulted in heavy damage on Interstate 90 in McHenry County Friday evening, authorities said.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) and Hampshire Fire Protection District responded around 11:53 p.m. Friday to Interstate 90 near mile marker 39, south of Marengo, for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fire crews arrived and found a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage and one vehicle rolled over, fire officials said.

The incident occurred in the westbound lanes east of Getty Road.

The Pingree Grove, Burlington, Huntley and Genoa fire departments were called to the scene to assist.

A total of eight people occupied the two vehicles and all of them were treated at the scene, fire officials said.

One of the eight was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment.

An ISP spokesperson said a preliminary investigation showed the two vehicles, a white Infiniti QX56 and a black Toyota Camry, were traveling westbound on Interstate 90.

The two cars were in the left lane when the Infiniti struck the rear of the Toyota and the Infiniti lost control.

ISP said the Infiniti rolled over onto its roof and blocked the left lane. A passenger in the Infiniti was the victim who was hospitalized.

The two left lanes were shut down for a short period of time for the investigation and for tow trucks to remove both cars, ISP said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
