A driver was hospitalized after being trapped in a two-vehicle crash that shut down part of Route 14 in Cary Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The Cary Fire Protection District and Cary Police Department responded around 11:07 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Northwest Highway and West Main Street for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived a short time later and found a two-vehicle crash with moderate to heavy damage, according to Cary Deputy Fire Chief Mark Pelletreau.
An adult female driver was trapped inside her vehicle.
Firefighters extricated her and transported her to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with moderate injuries that were not life-threatening.
The second vehicle contained two occupants, Pelletreau said.
Both were evaluated at the scene and declined medical treatment.
Pelletreau said eastbound Route 14, also known as Northwest Highway and Crystal Street, was shut down for approximately 30 minutes while emergency crews operated at the scene.
Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said the crash was caused by a westbound vehicle disobeying the red traffic signal to proceed onto West Main Street.
The at-fault vehicle struck a vehicle that was driving eastbound on a green traffic signal, Naydenoff said.
