A Woodstock man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after prosecutors say he sexually assaulted a child multiple times over a several-month span when he lived with her.
Jason Kupsik, 27, of Woodstock, was charged in November 2023 with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.
The Woodstock Police Department began investigating a report of a sexual assault of a child in November 2023.
Prosecutors said Kupsik committed acts of sexual penetration and sexual conduct against a juvenile female between January 1, 2023, and November 5, 2023.
The assaults occurred during a time when the child was under 13 years old and at a time when Kupsik resided with the child.
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese said the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center and medical staff at Northwestern Medicine Hospital were involved in the case.
Kupsik entered into a negotiated plea agreement last week where he pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony, and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea and sentenced Kupsik to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on the first charge and seven years on the second charge pursuant to the agreement.
Kupsik will serve the sentences consecutively and he will be placed on mandatory supervised release for at least three years and up to life upon release.
He will also be required to register as a sexual predator for the rest of his life.
Freese said she commends the young child for having the courage to come forward to report the abuse and for the swift response by Woodstock police detectives David Sharp and Matthew Prentice in the investigation.
