A death investigation is underway after the body, possibly of a missing man, was found in a wooded area near the Amstutz Expressway in Waukegan, officials said.
The Waukegan Police Department was conducting a missing persons search in the area of Greenwood Avenue near the Amstutz Expressway.
Officers located a deceased male in a wooded area in the vicinity of the intersection.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday of the discovery and responded to the scene.
The discovery comes amid a missing person report involving a man who left Vista Medical Center East earlier this month.
Police, when they located the male, were reportedly searching for Edward Calvert, 61, who was last seen around 1 p.m. on May 2 leaving the hospital, located at 1324 North Sheridan Road in Waukegan.
Calvert was described as being 5-foot-11, 193 pounds and was last seen wearing a gray shirt, navy blue pants and black shoes.
The man’s sister, Earlene Hayes-Langston, told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that her brother was being treated at the hospital.
He had just been released and was sitting in the waiting room for a ride but left the hospital before the ride arrived.
Calvert walked eastbound from the hospital toward Sheridan Road and has not been seen since.
Calvert was considered endangered as he suffers from epilepsy and was confused when he spoke with family while he was at the hospital, Hayes-Langston said.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Thursday morning at the coroner’s office on the deceased male.
The coroner’s office said the body matches the description of Calvert but a positive identification is still pending.
