A man was left seriously injured and had to be flown to the hospital following a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Route 47 near Woodstock, sheriff’s officials said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded around 6:55 a.m. Sunday to Route 47 and Thayer Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a multiple-vehicle crash with injuries.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, Harvard Fire Protection District and Mercyhealth MD-1 also responded to assist.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2024 Toyota Tundra was traveling westbound on Thayer Road and failed to yield prior to entering the intersection.
The Toyota was struck by a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling northbound on Route 47, sheriff’s officials said.
The Jeep was then struck by a southbound 2024 International semi truck with a trailer.
Sheriff’s officials said the 51-year-old Woodstock man driving the Jeep was airlifted from the scene to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition.
A 51-year-old Woodstock woman, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with minor injuries.
A 32-year-old Chicago man, who was driving the Toyota, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with minor injuries.
The 34-year-old driver of the semi-truck, a Streamwood resident, was not injured and declined medical transport.
Route 47 and Thayer Road was shut down for several hours while a crash reconstruction and investigation were conducted.
No citations or charges have been announced. The investigation remains ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
