Two elderly victims were hospitalized with serious injuries following a T-bone crash that left a third person injured near Marengo Sunday evening, officials said.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and the Union Fire Protection District responded around 6:35 p.m. Sunday to South Grant Highway and East Coral Road in unincorporated McHenry County between Marengo and Union for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said emergency crews arrived and found a two-vehicle crash with moderate damage.
The impact was a T-bone style collision and both vehicles were located just south of the intersection.
Firefighters initially prepared for an extrication due to heavy passenger-side damage on the sedan, Vucha said.
The door detached without the use of rescue tools and extrication was not needed.
Vucha said the incident was upgraded due to the number of people involved and three ambulances were requested to the scene.
Two elderly occupants of the sedan were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin with serious injuries.
Two adult males were in the pickup truck and one was transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries, Vucha said. The other declined medical attention.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash and has not released information yet on the incident.
