Police are investigating after a person shot and wounded a dog in the face and fled the scene in North Chicago before officers arrived, authorities said.
The North Chicago Police Department responded around 8:30 p.m. last Monday to the 800 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of a dog shot.
Officers arrived and found a German Shepherd dog that had been shot in the face, according to North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn.
Officers transported the dog to an emergency veterinarian for treatment.
Lunn said surveillance video recovered showed a subject walking a Pitbull-style dog in the 800 block of Broadway Avenue.
The video showed the German Shepherd ran towards the subject and the Pitbull, Lunn said.
The person walking the Pitbull-style dog pulled out a gun and shot the German Shepherd.
Lunn said the subject who shot the dog fled the scene and was not located by officers.
A resident on the street said that a man shot the dog and left the injured dog and bleeding in their driveway. The dog was alive when it was transported for treatment.
The resident said their camera captured the incident and the suspect was a male Black with a thin build wearing a green hoodie, red hat and black jeans.
The North Chicago Police Department continues to actively investigate the incident.
