An active police manhunt is underway after multiple suspects fled in a residential area from a wanted vehicle that crashed in Highland Park Tuesday evening.
The City of Highland Park said around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday that there was a large police presence in the area of the 300 block of Barberry Road.
The incident was occurring in a residential area between Lake Cook Road and Clavey Road, west of Route 41.
The Highland Park Police Department responded to a vehicle crash in the area.
The vehicle involved had been linked to a retail theft in another town and crashed in Highland Park.
Four suspects fled from the vehicle on foot into the residential area from Route 41 and one suspect has since been taken into custody, city officials said.
The Highland Park Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies are searching for the three remaining suspects.
Police are using drones to aid in the search.
“Please be alert for suspicious behavior and call 911 in the event of an emergency,” the city said in an alert to residents.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
