A woman was critically injured and two children were also injured after an ATV struck a tree and rolled over, trapping the two children underneath, in Ingleside Monday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 5:35 p.m. Monday to the 27000 block of Chris Larkin Road in Ingleside for a crash with injuries involving an ATV.
A preliminary investigation shows the ATV, a 2021 Can-Am Outlander G2, was driven by a 25-year-old woman from Lubbock, Texas, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
An 11-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy were also riding on the ATV.
Covelli said the ATV was driving in circles in the yard when the operator lost control and crashed into a tree.
The ATV rolled over on top of the two children, trapping them underneath.
Several bystanders quickly responded and freed the children from beneath the vehicle, Covelli said.
The operator was knocked unconscious and suffered serious head trauma in the crash.
Covelli said she was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The children suffered minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
