McHenry County Coroner officials identified a pickup truck driver who died after slamming the vehicle into a tree in Woodstock earlier this week.
Peter Roberts, 35, of McHenry, was identified as the driver killed in the single motor vehicle crash in the 13600 block of Kishwaukee Valley Road in Woodstock Tuesday, McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein announced.
Rein said his office performed an autopsy Wednesday, and preliminary findings show the cause of death as blunt force injuries to the head and chest areas.
He said the Coroner’s Office is continuing to work with Woodstock Police Department, the Woodstock Fire and Rescue Department, and the McHenry County Accident Team (MCAT) to investigate the accident.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 7:51 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a serious crash.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said fire crews arrived within minutes and located a heavily damaged pickup truck.
The truck was off the roadway and wrapped around a tree in the yard of a residence.
Paramedics quickly determined the adult male driver – later identified as Roberts – died from his injuries, Vucha said.
Roberts was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
No additional hazards were identified, and firefighters cleared the scene at 8:15 a.m.
The McHenry County Regional Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene to assist the Woodstock Police Department in conducting an investigation.
The City of Woodstock said Kishwaukee Valley Road between Borden Street and Oakland Street was closed due to the “major crash investigation.”
The area and immediate roadway were reopened around 1:30 p.m., Vucha said.
