The all-new, record-setting Wrath of Rakshasa roller coaster will open to the public at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee on May 31.
With its commanding presence 180 feet above the park, Wrath of Rakshasa ushers in a new record for the dive roller coaster, Six Flags officials said.
Located in the County Fair area of the park, guests will experience “The Ornelas Brothers’ traveling exhibition: The Wrath of Rakshasa,” an unusual collection of artifacts surrounding the legendary demon, officials said.
As Rakshasa is unleashed and shape-shifts into the massive roller coaster, riders will fear the wrath through floorless trains with seven-across seating that climb to a staggering height of 180 feet.
They’re left hanging precariously over the edge at the top of the coaster for three seconds before encountering a 171-foot, 96-degree initial drop, officials said. The drop makes the Wrath of Rakshasa the steepest drop on a dive coaster.
Flying through five inversions, Wrath of Rakshasa reaches speeds of 67 mph along its 3,239 feet of tubular steel track, officials said. The five drops are also considered the most ever on a dive coaster, officials said.
The new season marks the 49th year in operation.
Six Flags said the 2025 season is “packed with a variety of thrills” for the entire family, including a “Summerbration” of immersive events, captivating live entertainment and adrenaline-pumping, record-breaking thrill rides.
The new coaster completed its first full test cycle earlier this week, and officials said, “Our team is so excited about this milestone… We are one step closer to diving into 2025,” Six Flags said.
The park’s event lineup for the year includes Star-Spangled Nights from July 3-5, Great American Nights from July 12 to August 3, Viva La Fiesta from August 16-17 and August 23-24, Oktoberfest from September 13 to November 2, Fright Fest from September 13 to November 2 and Kids Boo Fest from September 13 to November 2.
“The entire season is filled with so many diverse offerings for our guests, and we can’t wait to welcome them once again on April 18,” said Six Flags Great America Park President John Krajnak.
“Whether you’re a foodie, a non-rider who just loves unique entertainment, or a coaster lover looking to conquer the world-record-breaking Wrath of Rakshasa, there’s literally something for everyone, and we’re excited to dive into the season,” Krajnak said.
The park will operate weekends and select days at the beginning of the season before daily operation begins on May 20.
Six Flags Great America also said they are proud to partner with United Way of Lake County for an exclusive Wrath of Rakshasa fundraising ride event on Saturday, June 7.
United Way of Lake County mobilizes the Lake County community to action so all can thrive by helping young people realize their full potential and addressing urgent needs today for a better tomorrow.
During the private event, guests will have unlimited access to Wrath of Rakshasa, Demon, and The Lobster from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. They will also receive a catered meal and a special-edition souvenir marking their trip.

In addition to the world debut of Wrath of Rakshasa, the park is also celebrating members of the military with free single-day admission May 23 – 26.
