A Lake County man is facing a parole revocation hearing after police discovered an AR-15, a defaced shotgun, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and 1,300 grams of cannabis in his home following a search warrant, officials said.
Jose Turcios, unknown age, is facing charges of possession of cannabis, manufacturing and delivering cannabis, aggravated assault, possession of a defaced firearm, and other drug-related charges following his arrest on May 23.
The charge for manufacturing and delivery of cannabis is a Class 2 felony, while possession of a defaced shotgun and possession of large quantities of cannabis are Class 3 felonies, court records show. The aggravated assault charge is a class A misdemeanor, court records show.
Prosecutors with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office said in First Appearance Court Saturday that Turcios went to a Waukegan home to confront several of his former classmates. At the location, Turcios pointed a handgun at the three people after they came outside.
Police were called and Turcios was arrested later, prosecutors said, where he admitted to pointing a gun during the incident.
However, he told police someone pointed a gun at him first, prosecutors said in court.
Waukegan Police were able to obtain a search warrant for Turcios’ home, where they seized 1,300 grams of cannabis and assorted gummies obtained from a cannabis store in Michigan, prosecutors said.
Police also confiscated $4,000 in cash and labels indicating Turcios seemed to be trying to sell a private brand of cannabis edibles, prosecutors said.
Police also recovered an AR-15, a Glock handgun that matched the description of the handgun used in the earlier incident, a shotgun with a defaced serial number, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors in court Saturday, the charges against Turcios were not detainable under the Illinois Safe-T Act.
However, because Turcios was on probation for a misdemeanor charge obtained earlier this year for possession of a firearm, prosecutors filed the necessary paperwork to revoke his probation.
Lake County Judge Ruth Lofthouse agreed to detain Turcios in Lake County Jail pending the outcome of the revocation hearing in front of Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim Tuesday afternoon.
“The presence of firearms threatening toward other individuals, the possession of large quantities of controlled substances, and the combination of all of those factors, at least that’s the allegation,” Lofthouse said. “So, you are going to be detained pending your hearing on the petition to revoke release.”
