A dairy barn fire was quickly extinguished after it ignited in Hebron Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Hebron Alden Greenwood Fire Chief Fire Thomas Linneman said firefighters were called to the 12400 block of Route 173 at about 3:17 p.m. Saturday for a report of fire on the roof of a dairy barn.

He said units arriving on the scene saw smoke from the top of the barn.

Upon arrival, it was determined the resident had managed to put out the main fire using a garden hose, Linneman said.

Firefighters quickly assisted to drown out the remainder of the fire, Linneman said.

Additional units responding to the scene returned to quarters, he said.

Linneman said the initial indication is that the location was doing a small controlled burn on the property, and some embers started the fire at the top of the barn.

There were no injuries to people, animals, or firefighters, Linneman said.

Firefighters left the scene at about 4 p.m. after assisting in putting out any remaining hot spots at the location, he said.
