A 27-year-old motorcyclist from McHenry died following a crash with a Honda Civic at the intersection of Johnsburg and Miller roads in unincorporated McHenry County Sunday, authorities said.
Emergency personnel from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Johnsburg Police Department, McHenry County Conservation District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District and Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded to the crash at 3:03 p.m. on May 25, McHenry County Sheriff officials said in a news release Wednesday morning.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Johnsburg Road when it collided with the driver’s side of a 2021 Honda Civic as it was turning north onto Johnsburg Road from Miller Road.
The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest within the intersection, authorities said.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and was the sole occupant of the Kawasaki, authorities said.
The motorcyclist was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The 17-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was also transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
The 45-year-old passenger in the Civic was not injured, authorities said.
Both occupants of the Honda were wearing seatbelts, and the vehicle’s airbags deployed as a result of the crash, authorities said.
Sheriff officials said the speed of the motorcycle is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, officials said.
