Three people were injured following a rollover crash on the Tri-State Tollway Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Illinois State Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Melissa Albert-Lopez said the preliminary investigation shows the two-unit personal injury rollover traffic crash took place on I-94 westbound near Grand Avenue at milepost 5.25 in Gurnee at 4:19 p.m. Wednesday.

Albert-Lopez said three people were transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Newport Fire Protection District Lt. Keenan Stone said the crash involved an SUV and a sedan as the two vehicles were heading north toward Wisconsin.

The driver and two passengers of the SUV were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Stone said.

Stone said the sole occupant and driver of the sedan was treated at the scene and released.

All westbound lanes were closed for a traffic crash investigation and traffic was only getting by on the left shoulder, Albert-Lopez said.
