A Wonder Lake Police officer suffered a medical emergency before striking two parked vehicles on Barnard Mill Road Tuesday, authorities said.

The Wonder Lake officer was on duty and driving a marked patrol car in the 7100 block of Barnard Mill Road when he became incapacitated due to a sudden medical event, Wonder Lake Police said in a news release posted to their Facebook page.

As a result, the patrol vehicle struck two unoccupied parked cars before coming to a stop, authorities said.

Emergency responders from the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District were immediately dispatched to the scene and transported the officer to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.

The officer was listed in stable condition Tuesday, authorities said.

“Our officer’s health and recovery are our primary concern right now,” Wonder Lake Police Chief Lee Redlin said. “We are grateful that no one else was injured and that the quick response by community members and the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District emergency personnel helped ensure a safe resolution to what could have been a much more serious incident.”

Police are withholding the name of the officer out of respect for their privacy and the privacy of their family, authorities said.

“We ask the community to keep our officer in their thoughts as they recover,” Redlin said.
