Illinois State Police said three people were injured after two Lexus collided, causing a rollover accident on I-94 in Gurnee earlier this week.

Illinois State Police Public Information Officer Shafer McKune said a preliminary investigation shows a Lexus RX 350 sideswiped a Lexus IS as the two vehicles were driving on westbound I-94 at milepost 5.25 near Grand Avenue at about 4:19 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28.

The Lexus RX 350 then lost control, striking a concrete barrier and overturned, McKune said.

The Lexus IS also lost control and partially left the roadway to the right, McKune said.

The driver and two passengers of the Lexus RX 350 were transported to a local hospital with various injuries, McKune said.

Newport Fire Protection District Lt. Keenan Stone said the three victims were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Their conditions have not been updated.

The sole occupant and driver of the Lexus IS was treated at the scene and released.

While I-94 technically runs north and south through most of Lake County, I-94 is still considered an east-and-west-bound tollway.

All westbound lanes were closed as a result of the traffic crash investigation, McKune said.

Traffic was only able to get by using the left shoulder, he said.
