Julian Morales-Campos, 21, of Ingleside

A Lake County prosecutor said in court that an Ingleside man charged with manufacturing and selling cocaine attempted to beat a court-ordered drug test using a fake “device” filled with someone else’s urine.

Julian Morales-Campos, 21, of Ingleside, appeared in Lake County’s First Appearance Court Saturday on a Class X felony charge of manufacture and delivery of between 100 and 400 grams of a controlled substance containing cocaine and a Class 1 felony charge of possession of between 100 and 400 grams of a controlled substance containing cocaine.

Should Morales-Campos be found guilty of the charges, he could be sentenced up to 30 years in prison.

During the court appearance in front of Lake County Associate Judge Jacquelyn Melius, Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney Nicholas Shepherd said Morales-Campos tried to falsify the results of a court-ordered drug screening by using the fake device filled with urine.

“The defendant essentially brought a fake-looking [male genitalia] in which he used someone else’s urine to essentially try and defeat that drug and alcohol test,” Shepherd said in court. “This was done in front of a Lake County pretrial bond services officer.”

Shepherd said charges are expected to be filed soon for attempting to falsify a drug screening.

Morales-Campos tested positive for cocaine following his attempt to falsify the drug test, Shepherd said.

Melius ordered Morales-Campos detained in Lake County Jail pending the outcome of a detention hearing Monday due to the high number of cases he has pending in Lake County court.

Those charges include felony counts of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm from Antioch in October of 2024, possession of drugs in November of 2024, and charges in April of manufacturing and delivering cocaine in Round Lake Park.
