Raymond V. Kanarowski, 77, of McHenry

New felony charges have been filed against a McHenry man who is alleged to have shot a gun near his wife and daughter to try and scare them during a domestic dispute.

Raymond V. Kanarowski, 77, of McHenry, is facing two new charges of reckless discharge of a firearm on allegations he fired a gun from his yard in the 600 block of Mineral Springs Drive toward busy River Road at 3 p.m. on May 25, court records show.

The new River Road shooting charges took place before the incident where he tried to scare his wife and daughter, court records show.

Court records show the discharge of the gun could cause a bullet to ricochet off impacted landscaping bricks, concrete, metal fencing, poles and other items.

The new charges are class 4 felonies that could put Kanarowski in prison for up to 5 years.

Kanarowski was already facing felony charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault, and a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault, following the incident in the 600 block of Silbury Court.

Police officers were called to the Silbury Court residence for a report of a domestic dispute involving a gun at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Officers arrived at the location and determined Kanarowski had been involved in the dispute with his 75-year-old spouse and 46-year-old daughter, police said.

During the dispute, Kanarowski pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds.

The criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court shows Kanarowski placed a 9 mm Glock handgun behind his wife and fired off several rounds with the intent to scare her.

Court records also show he pointed the Glock at his daughter and fired off several rounds with the same intent to scare her.
