One person was airlifted to a hospital from the scene of a two-vehicle crash with a rollover on the border of Boone and McHenry counties in unincorporated Marengo, fire officials said.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to the intersection of County Line Road and Kishwaukee Valley Road at 2:44 p.m. Monday for a reported crash, Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said.
While responding, the call was upgraded for possible entrapment after reports indicated one of the vehicles had rolled over.
Firefighters from both Marengo and Boone counties arrived on the scene and found the two-vehicle crash involving a minivan and a sedan with moderate to heavy damage, Vucha said.
Both vehicles had come to rest in the southeast field of the intersection, and one was overturned, he said.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles and managed to exit before the arrival of emergency personnel, Vucha said.
Vucha said a medical helicopter was requested to the scene due to the extent of injuries the driver of the sedan received in the crash, Vucha said.
The helicopter landed nearby and airlifted the adult driver with serious injuries to a hospital in Rockford for further treatment.
The male driver of the minivan was evaluated on scene and declined any further medical care, Vucha said.
Crews remained on scene until 4:00 p.m., Vucha said.
Kishwaukee Valley Road was closed in both directions for the duration of the incident.
The accident remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
