A McHenry man has been charged with reproducing or distributing child pornography after authorities discovered he was possessing and distributing videos of adults performing sex acts with children, authorities said.

Robert S. Nolan, 36, of 2300 Eisenhower Boulevard in McHenry,  was formally charged Wednesday by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office with 10 Class X felony counts of Reproducing or Distributing Child Pornography, McHenry Police Chief John Birk said in a news release.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court says Nolan possessed multiple videos of adults performing sexual acts involving prepubescent children and, in some cases, infants.

Birk said the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program reported receiving a cybertip that a McHenry resident had been downloading child pornography.

That information led to an investigation conducted by the McHenry Police Department and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, he said.

Interviews were conducted and evidence was collected that led to the arrest of Nolan, he said.

After a review of the investigation, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office issued child pornography charges against Nolan, Birk said.

Nolan was taken into custody Wednesday and transported to the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock to await court proceedings, Birk said.

McHenry County court records show this isn’t the first time Nolan has been arrested by police for sexual misconduct involving children.

Nolan pleaded guilty to a Class 2 felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13 in October of 2024.

In that case, court records show Nolan was initially charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in November 2022 for an incident in McHenry before pleading guilty to the single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in October 2024.
