Details continue to be withheld surrounding an extremely large police presence at the corner of Venice Avenue and Court Street in McHenry on Thursday.
McHenry Police issued a warning to residents at about 11:49 a.m. to avoid Venice Avenue and Court Street due to police activity.
Police said in the warning that the incident taking place at the intersection is an isolated incident that will be active for several hours.
They also told residents there is no danger ot the public.
Law enforcement SWAT teams, called the Northern Police Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) in northern Illinois, descended on McHenry due to the incident and surrounded a building on all sides.
This included stationing officers on a boat in the water outside of a group of homes bordering the Fox River.
McHenry Police have not verified any information regarding the situation.
People have said “dozens” of police officers and vehicles are stationed throughout the area.
People are urged to avoid the area while the police presence remains active.
