One person was injured after a portion of a large tree fell onto a house and through a bedroom ceiling in Round Lake early Thursday morning, fire officials said.
Emergency personnel were called to the 400 block of Cedar Crest Court in Round Lake at 2:05 a.m. Thursday for a report of a structure collapse, said Battalion Chief Jay VandeBerg of the Greater Round Lake Area Fire Protection District.
Upon arrival, VandeBerg said emergency crews found a section of a larch tree had split off from a nearby tree and fallen on the roof of a two-story home and a car parked in the driveway.
He said the home did not collapse, but said a branch from the tree managed to go through the roof and pierce the ceiling of a second-floor bedroom.
One person was transported from the scene to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in stable condition, suffering from minor injuries, VandeBerg said.
The scene was turned over to the building department at the village of Round Lake, he said.
The home has been deemed uninhabitable until the building department authorizes clearance for the homeowner, VandeBerg said.
