Tanea Landrum, 34, Lake County

A Mundelein woman has been released on pretrial conditions despite trying to shoot her brother in the foot following an argument in Grayslake Saturday.

Grayslake Police officers responded to the 300 block of Quist Court for a report of a single gunshot at approximately 2:39 p.m. on Saturday, police officials said.

Upon arrival, police determined that a domestic dispute had occurred involving several subjects, police said.

During the dispute, Tanea Landrum, 34, pulled out a .22 caliber pistol and fired one shot in the direction of a victim, police said.

No injuries were reported because of this incident.

Landrum, who is a security guard at Grayslake North High School, left the scene as a passenger in a vehicle but was located in Mundelein and taken into custody without incident, police said.

Following the arrest and subsequent investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Landrum with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault from a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm without an Illinois Concealed Carry License, authorities said.

Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney Nicholas Shepherd said in court Sunday that the state filed a petition to detain Landrum due to the incident.

Shepherd said in court that the shooting took place at the brother’s apartment, adding that the victim had instigated the argument and continued it by following Landrum out to the car and pounding on her windows.

However, Landrum pulled out a pink Ruger .22 handgun and attempted to shoot the brother in the foot, but missed, Shepherd said.

Shepherd said Landrum admitted to the incident.

At Tuesday’s Detention hearing in front of Lake County Circuit Court Judge Michael Nerheim, Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney Colleen McConnell repeated everything previously said in court, but added that police recovered the weapon from Landrum from her apartment, and the brother and sister had a verbal argument inside the apartment that carried over into the parking lot.

Defense attorney Robert Ritacca Jr. called the victim as a witness during the detention hearing, who admitted to striking Landrum in the apartment during the argument.

He also admitted he tried to hit the car window after Landrum left the apartment with rocks, and that he never saw Landrum fire the weapon.

In addition, Ritacca called the mother of Landrum, who testified she has enrolled the family in counselling to get help with their relationship.

Nerheim decided to release the woman from jail while awaiting trial because there were sanctions he could impose on Landrum while on pretrial release.

Landrum was ordered to turn over all weapons, her FOID card, have no contact with her brother outside the family therapy sessions and not discuss the facts of the case during those family therapy sessions.
