A home was damaged due to a fire in an attic near Lake Villa Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Battalion Chief Jay Vance of the Lake Villa Fire Protection District said emergency personnel were called to the 36000 block of Corona Drive in unincorporated Lake County near Lake Villa for a working fire at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He said residents in the home had evacuated the two-story, single-family residence before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Vance said it is unknown at this time if any flames were showing upon arrival, but Vance said any fire was contained to the attic and brought under control almost immediately.
Vance said the damage amount is unknown at this time, but said the home was deemed uninhabitable after the fire was extinguished.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Vance said, but added it is believed that it was sparked due to an attic fan.
Fire departments from Gurnee, Round Lake and Antioch assisted the Lake Villa Fire Protection District at the scene, he said.
