The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office announced it received a grant for nearly $148,000 to fund the cost of additional prosecutors and support staff members, officials said.
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese said via a news release that the office was awarded $147,986.12 by the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for the Comprehensive Law Enforcement Response to Violent Crime program.
The funds will be available throughout 2025 and may be reapplied for in the fall, Freese said.
The grant will assist in funding the salaries for two domestic violence prosecutors, a victim witness coordinator, and a domestic violence deferred prosecution program coordinator, Freese said.
Freese said she was “grateful to receive these funds that will allow the office to continue to take a targeted approach to the social ill of domestic violence.”
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office employs two full-time attorneys who work exclusively on domestic violence cases, Freese said.
The office also employs three victim witness coordinators who provide essential services to victims of violent crime, Freese said.
Freese noted that she is “proud to stand with, and fight for, the victims of domestic abuse.”
