Alejandro J. Barradas, 36, of Woodstock.

A judge on Wednesday sentenced a Woodstock man to 30 years in prison after he was convicted by a jury of sexually assaulting a child multiple times in Woodstock.

Alejandro J. Barradas, 36, of Woodstock, was charged in July 2023 with nine counts of criminal sexual assault of a child family member, a Class 1 felony.

The charges stem from an investigation that the Woodstock Police Department conducted after being called on July 2, 2023, to Northwestern Medicine Hospital, 3701 Doty Road in Woodstock, for a report of a sexual assault victim.

Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said at the time that the hospital reported an allegation of an assault that occurred to a juvenile by an adult relative in late June 2023.

Detectives and a member of the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) met with the juvenile and a parent at the hospital.

A multi-disciplinary team composed of members of the McHenry County CAC, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Woodstock Police Department convened at the advocacy center later that day.

A specially-trained forensic interviewer from the CAC interviewed the juvenile, Lieb said.

Lieb said the investigation revealed the suspect as Barradas.

An initial criminal complaint said Barradas committed several sex acts on the victim, who was under the age of 18, sometime between June 22 through June 23, 2023.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office initially approved one count of criminal sexual assault of a juvenile family member, a Class 1 felony, before a grand jury later indicted Barradas on the eight additional counts.

A grand jury indictment said the sexual assaults occurred from March 1, 2023, to June 23, 2023.

Prosecutors said that Barradas began touching the victim when she was 12 or 13 years old.

The child told investigators that Barradas explained to her that she would have “urges” and so he was doing this to “help her” deal with them, prosecutors said.

The assaults occurred in the man’s bedroom when the victim’s mother was not home.

A warrant was issued for Barradas and he was taken into custody on July 2, 2023, and transported to the McHenry County Jail.

Barradas was ordered held on a $500,000 bond and later a judge ordered him detained pending trial without the ability to post bond.

A jury trial held in April resulted in the jury returning guilty verdicts against Barradas on three of the counts.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis sentenced Barradas on Wednesday to a combined 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The judge sentenced the man to 10 years for each of the three counts to be served consecutively.

Barradas will be required to serve the sentence at 85% in accordance with truth-in-sentencing guidelines and be required to register as a sexual predator for life upon release.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office said after sentencing that the victim showed courage during the prosecution of the case.
