The coroner has released the identities of a boyfriend and a girlfriend, both in their 20s, who were left dead in a suspected murder-suicide shooting in Zion Thursday morning.
The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire-Rescue Department responded around 4:12 a.m. Thursday to the 3400 block of Clover Lane for a report of a shooting.
Zion Police Department Detective Lt. Paul Kehrli said a call was received for two people who had been shot inside a residence.
Officers arrived and found a woman and a man, both in their 20s, who had been shot.
The man, who resided at the home, and the woman were later pronounced dead, Kehrli said.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the female victim on Friday as Eleric Lyon, 24, of Beach Park, and the male subject as Jacob Christ, 24, of Zion.
Lyon was pronounced dead at the scene. She suffered multiple gunshot wounds, an autopsy showed.
Banek said Christ was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
An autopsy showed Christ suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.
A preliminary investigation showed that Christ and Lyon were in a dating relationship.
The two had been arguing together during the prior evening and into the early morning hours on Thursday, Kehrli said.
Investigators believe Christ shot Lyon and then shot himself.
A handgun registered to Christ was found at the scene and is believed to be the weapon used in the incident.
Kehrli said no other persons are being sought at this time and no charges have been filed.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Zion Police Department at 847-872-8000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at 847-662-2222.
