Police and the FBI have captured a man in McHenry wanted for robbing a bank while implying he was armed with a gun in Kildeer Friday morning, authorities announced.
The Kildeer Police Department responded around 10:30 a.m. Friday to the Bank of America, 20263 North Rand Road in Kildeer, for a report of an armed robbery.
A suspect walked into the bank and presented a note to the teller, according to Kildeer Police Chief Steve Balinski.
The note implied that the suspect was armed with a gun but the suspect did not display a weapon.
Balinski said the teller complied with the demands and handed an unknown amount of cash to the suspect.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
It is suspected that the suspect was driving a newer model GMC Acadia, Balinski said. The license plate was not known.
The offender was described as being a male white, approximately 60 years old, 5-foot-7 and 210 pounds.
He had facial hair, including a grey goatee, and was wearing a dark jacket, gray shirt and black and silver glasses.
No one was injured in the robbery. The FBI Chicago Field Office also responded to the scene.
The Kildeer Police Department, FBI, McHenry Police Department and the Johnsburg Police Department took the suspect into custody around 7:25 p.m. Friday.
The suspect was apprehended as the result of a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 31 and Alexandria Boulevard in McHenry.
The arrest was made without incident and the proceeds from the robbery were recovered.
“The success of this arrest was based upon great teamwork between our law enforcement partners and the use of available technology,” Balinski said Saturday.
The suspect was identified as Pedro Perales, 56, of Fox Lake. He is in the custody of the FBI and charges are pending.
In July 2023, the same Bank of America branch was robbed by a woman who was arrested after she stole $20,000 in cash while implying she was armed.
