Two drivers surprisingly escaped without injury after a head-on crash left both cars heavily damaged and Route 31 shut down in Prairie Grove early Sunday morning.

The Nunda Rural Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:44 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 31 and Gracy Road for a report of a head-on vehicle crash.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and located a two-vehicle crash with heavy front-end damage, according to Nunda Rural Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.
