The sheriff’s office is seeking help in locating the owner of a horse that was found wandering along the roadway outside of Harvard late Sunday evening.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said a horse was located along the roadway near Route 23 and Olbrich Road in unincorporated Harvard north of Marengo.

A person called the sheriff’s office around 9:40 p.m. Sunday to report spotting the horse south of the intersection.

Deputies located the horse on Olbrich Road south of Route 23 in a field.

Deputies took possession of the Appaloosa mare and it is currently being housed by a resident at a farm in the area.

The sheriff’s office issued a community alert on Monday asking anyone with information on the owners to call 815-338-2144.

Officials said a photo of the horse was not immediately available.

In September, sheriff’s deputies handled another loose horse call in the area of Route 173 and Reese Road in unincorporated Harvard.

A person spotted a horse in the road near the curve in the roadway and the McHenry County Animal Control was also notified to assist in the search for the owner.

The sheriff’s office also sought the public’s help in that case locating the owner, which was eventually found and the horse was reunited.
