A motorcyclist was flown to the hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash with a sedan on Longmeadow Parkway in Algonquin Tuesday morning, police said.
The Algonquin Police Department and Carpentersville Fire Department responded around 3:41 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Longmeadow Parkway and Sleepy Hollow Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers arrived and found a crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle on eastbound Longmeadow Parkway near Sleepy Hollow Road, according to Algonquin Police Department Sgt. Johnny Beltran.
An initial 911 caller reported the victim was unconscious and barely breathing.
A preliminary investigation shows that a motorcycle, operated by a single rider, was traveling eastbound on Longmeadow Parkway approaching Sleepy Hollow Road.
A white sedan, which was traveling westbound on Longmeadow Parkway, attempted to turn southbound onto Sleepy Hollow Road, Beltran said.
The collision occurred within the intersection as the sedan made the turn.
Beltran said the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Algonquin Police Department Sgt. Jason Burzynski said the motorcyclist, a 29-year-old Carpentersville man, was initially transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
He was later airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for further treatment and is in the intensive care unit, Burzynski said.
The driver of the sedan was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
The intersection of Longmeadow Parkway and Sleepy Hollow Road was shut down for several hours during the investigation. It reopened around 7:50 a.m.
The Kane County Crash Assistance Response Team (KCART) was called to assist the Algonquin Police Department.
